White Rhone Blend

White Rhone Blend

The Rhone grape growing region of France is divided into to distinct areas, the Northern Rhone and Southern Rhone. In the Northern Rhone, Syrah is the dominant red and Viognier is the leading white grape. In the Southern Rhone growing region, especially in Chateauneuf du Pape, one would find Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault for reds, and Ugni Blanc, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, and Clairette for whites. In a white Rhone blend, it is common to see Roussanne and Marsanne together, while modern winemakers are now blending Viognier, which traditionally stood on its own, with other white Rhones as well.
