Sangiovese

Sangiovese

Sangiovese is a red wine grape widely grown in Italy and historically used in Chianti. Wildly popular in the Tuscany region, it is in fact the most widely planted red wine grape in Italy. Italian immigrants eventually brought the grapes to North and South America, where it is grown mostly in California and Argentina. Sangiovese grows well in many climates and does particularly well in limestone or shale-clay soil. Sangiovese wines tend to have higher acidity and mid to high levels of tannins, with light color. Juicy red fruit flavors lend well to pairing with Italian foods like pasta and pizza.
