Port
Port is not a grape varietal, but rather a type of fortified wine originally produced from grapes from the Douro region of Portugal. It is fortified with Brandy in order to stop fermentation and leave residual sugars and higher alcohol levels. Port is considered a dessert wine. Ruby Ports are the most extensively produced type and are typically a rich, claret color. Toriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Bastardo, and Sousao are commonly used grapes in traditional Portuguese Port, but other grape varieties can be used to create a "Port-style" wine.
