Cabernet Franc
One of the five major grapes of Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc has recently been discovered to be one of the genetic parents of Cabernet Sauvignon. Cab Franc enjoys lighter pigments but has rich notes of raspberries, black currants, violets and graphite. It has slightly less tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon and tends to produce a wine with a smoother mouthfeel.
