Bordeaux Blend
The Bordeaux region of France has authorized the use of six varieties to refer to a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenere. Wines labeled as 'Meritage' in the United States also fall under this stipulation. A true Bordeaux blend will have Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot as the primary grape in the blend, and will typically include up to 3 others.
